School in Africa for destitute,poor kids?

When Oprah aired her show about opening the school in Africa for "poor,destitute,children",i noticed that one of the girls had braces on her teeth! What the heck! I thought,like an idiot,i guess,that she was really trying to help "poor"people! The really poor and destitute people can barely afford clothing,much less braces,which cost thousands of dollars! Is the school for poor children,or is it just to help her image?
